Forever homes…

Our puppies are eight weeks old and almost ready for their forever homes.

It is bittersweet. We couldn’t have asked for better adopting families. All the families are perfectly fitted with their pups.

From Ellie, our only female, joining a lovely family with a toddler who will love her to bits to Wyatt- our little fighter, who will make an older couple’s wish come true of owning their own Bernedoodle. After falling in love with their daughters’ Bernedoodle in England, they wish to love their own doodle in SA.

Dear, lazy Kode will join a young family not only growing by one big fluffy dog-baby but also by two tiny baby feet.

This brings me to Bernedoodles and Family Life.

Bernedoodles are particularly well-suited to family life, even for first-time dog owners. They love being near people and are gentle and caring when it comes to small kids, but they also adore running around the backyard with older children and adults. If your family spends much time away from home participating in activities the dog can’t join in, a Bernedoodle might get separation anxiety.

They’ll want to be involved in all the fun stuff you do and enjoy nothing more than being part of the pack. Because they bond so closely with their loved ones, they make excellent companions and protectors.

Spending so much time with your doodle, even in public, means that Training Your Bernadoodle is a must.

Young Bernadoodles tend to inherit the stubbornness characteristic of both their poodle and Bernese mountain dog parents, so it’s crucial to get training in nice and early. Provided they have the right input, doodles are highly responsive to excercise because of their calm, eager-to-please and intelligent personality. You should still expect them to be mischievous, cheeky and headstrong, but remember that patience, consistency and positive reinforcement will always deliver the best results.

Bernedoodles are highly sensitive dogs, so losing patience or getting upset with them can be counterproductive. Treats, playtime and effusive verbal praise when your dog gets it right will always be infinitely more effective than shouting at them or telling them off when they do something wrong.

It’s also important to thoroughly socialize them during the puppy stage by introducing them to sights, sounds, people, places and animals in a safe, controlled manner. Doing this prevents them from getting anxious or overexcited when met with new experiences.

We can’t wait to hear how they adapt to their new families and environments.

We will miss them dearly, but we know how much doodle love they’ll spread everywhere they go.
